Miele brings cooker hoods into line with new built-in appliance generation

Miele is set to introduce a breath of fresh air to the kitchen in the form of two new cooker hoods. So what is so special about these machines? Well, they perfectly match the design of Generation 6000 built-in appliances whilst at the same time setting standards in terms of features and energy efficiency.

Both models, the DA 6690 W (wall decor hood) and DA 6690 D (island decor hood) demonstrate an obvious association with the new family of built-in appliances. Like their cooking appliance counterparts, touch controls are integrated into the glass screen of the hood deflector; and it goes without saying that customers can select from 4 Miele colours: Stainless steel, Brilliant White, Obsidian Black and Havana Brown.

The two 90 cm wide cooker hoods are equipped with a particularly energy-efficient DC motor. Compared with a conventional AC drive, this approach uses considerably less electricity. For downlighting, Miele uses 3 high-power LED spotlights (four on island hoods). These create a soft, warm and natural light and have a rating of only 2 W per spotlight. Halogen lights, by contrast, use 20 W per lamp. An additional benefit accrues from the fact that these LED spotlights, developed exclusively for Miele, are extremely long-lasting, dispensing with any need to change lamps over the anticipated 20-year product life cycle. This is an approach adopted only by Miele.

Ex works, the cooker hoods feature the new Con@ctivity 2.0 standard. Con@ctivity 2.0 adjusts suction power automatically to what is happening on the hob below, guaranteeing a pleasant room micro-climate. Whereas hob-to-hood data exchange on the previous version made use of PowerLine technology, the new units communicate by sending RF signals. The new cooker hoods are shipped with a RF transmitter which is simply inserted into a Con@ctivity-enabled hob unit.

Both models can be used in vented or recirculation mode. The latter requires the use of a retrofittable Active AirClean charcoal filter. Stainless-steel versions are also available for use with an external fan.
