Miele Marine at METS show in Amsterdam

Gütersloh/Amsterdam, November 16, 2015 No. 155/2015

Tried and tested quality on board

When domestic appliances are used on the high seas, they are subjected to the most inclement conditions. Miele offers dedicated marine models which are designed to meet these challenges. A selection of products suitable for shipboard use is to be presented by the family-owned company at its own booth at the Amsterdam Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS). This exposition counts among the world's biggest specialist trade shows presenting products and equipment for use at sea.

A coffee machine, wine conditioning unit or steam oven should be able to cope with pitching, jawing and vibrations just as much as a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer or rotary ironer. After all, the conditions that prevail at high sea are quite different to those encountered in the shelter of a harbour or indeed on land. Miele Marine takes all this into account and has its models tested right down to the very last detail by the independent 'Phönix Testlab' institute in order to obtain official Lloyd’s Register certification – for wholehearted recommendation for use on board ocean-going vessels. Lloyd’s Register is a service of international repute providing independent quality monitoring and risk prevention in shipbuilding and other areas for more than 250 years.

The necessary special tests include electro-magnetic compatibility (EMC): This serves to ensure that electronic circuitry and components inside appliances do not interfere with systems on board, for instance radio transmissions. Conversely, precautions must also be taken to guarantee that appliances are not damaged or impaired by electro-magnetic fields.

That Miele machines rise to these challenges and cope with the other taxing conditions associated with this environment with ease is borne out by positive feedback from many satisfied clients the world over, including yacht owners, passengers on luxury cruise liners as well as the crews manning freight vessels and oil rigs. A variety of models in terms of size, colour, design and supply connections ensure that solutions can be tailored to individual needs on board. As early as the planning stage, 3D drawings and detailed installation plans provide ship-building engineers and designers with the wherewithal for perfect integration. Frequently, appliances are fitted during interior work at shipyards, but can just as easily be retrofitted.

Customers can rely on the quality and ruggedness of Miele appliances just as on Miele's continuing commitment to this field of business. This is affirmed by Dr Reinhard Zinkann, Managing Director, co-proprietor and co-initiator of Miele Marine and himself a passionate yachtsman: 'I am convinced that the market will grow in the long term, both in terms of new-build projects and refitting'. Zinkann knows from his own sailing acquaintances that more and more people wish to enjoy freedom on board whilst at the same time placing increasing demands on performance, individuality and service, and promises: 'Miele will supply suitable models offering the convenience and design which customers are familiar with from their own homes.'

Comprehensive after-sales service completes the range of services provided by Miele Marine. Irrespective of whose waters a ship is in, customers can always contact Miele's service hotline round the clock by telephone or e-mail. When needed, vessels will be awaited by specialists in the next port of call who will devote their skills and expertise to resolve any issues. Should spare parts be required, these can be sent by express delivery to any port in the world.
