New adapter: Safe reprocessing of special instruments

No. 079/2016

For hand-pieces, contra-angles and ultrasonic tips

Machine-based reprocessing is now possible for hand pieces and contra-angles with external spray or cooling channels. The same applies to ultrasonic tips used in plaque removal or in endodontics to clean the root canal system. This is possible using new adapters in thermal disinfectors from Miele Professional. These are due to be launched in the third quarter of 2016.

Miele has developed a patented adapter for the internal cleaning of ultrasound tips. This allows all common tips used in conjunction with air scalers and piezo scalers to be easily connected to an injector nozzle for irrigation in the upper basket of a Miele thermal disinfector. The adapter consists of a locking device and small cavity into which the instrument is placed. Tips are cleaned thoroughly both inside and out when the cavity is flooded with water. Even dried-on and stubborn residue is easily removed.

The safe cleaning of lumened instruments is further simplified by the micro-filtered wash liquor in thermal disinfectors from Miele. This reliably prevents larger particles from blocking the fine lumens or cooling ducts on ultrasound tips. Depending on the model, protection against foreign matter is provided by filter inserts or a central filter in the water circuit on board the upper injector basket.

The external spray or cooling channel on hand-pieces and contra-angles delivers cooling relief to the area being treated. Miele Professional now offers the possibility of machine-based reprocessing for this external channel. A tube connects the cooling channel with the new adapter in the upper basket, to which four hand-pieces and contra-angles with external spray channels can be connected – up to 17, depending on the type of disinfector.

New adapter for hand-pieces and contra-angles with external spray or cooling channels: until now, reliable machine-based reprocessing of these channels was not possible and there was no protection against a potential blockage by larger particles. Now, in the thermal disinfectors from Miele Professional, up to four cooling tubes from hand-pieces and contra-angles can be attached to the adapter via a feed tube.
