System4Dent from Miele: New solutions for the reprocessing of dental instruments

Gütersloh/Cologne, September 22, 2021 No. 076/2021
  • Highest capacity on the market: Space for up to 18 dental trays in a single cycle

  • Washing and disinfecting the cannulae of multi-function syringes

  • Space-saving holder for nitrous oxide sets

Miele is set to expand its System4Dent portfolio to cover all dental disciplines: For example, with innovations such as the first adapter for the automatic reprocessing of multi-function syringes in a thermal disinfector. Reuseable hoses and masks for laughing gas sedation can, in future, be washed and disinfected in Miele undercounter units. This fully equips practices with a variety of specialities – including general dentistry, orthodontics, implantology and oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Previously, only the manual reprocessing option existed for the cannulae of multi-function syringes through which air and water pass into the mouth during dental surgery. Now, the machine-based cleaning and disinfection of cannulae from various manufacturers is also possible, with Miele also offering a solution in the form of the new A 865 adapter, compatible with a variety of shapes and sizes and allowing the positioning of cannulae in the upper or lower basket, where 44 injector nozzles are available for the purpose.

Trays and cartridges in which instruments are reprocessed and stored have become indispensable in everyday surgery life. To meet particularly high demands, above all in the surgical area and in implantology, Miele has designed its new A 317 insert. All holders can, if required, be inclined to now allow 12 trays to be accommodated in the lower basket – twice as many as previously. A further six trays fit into the upper basket. If, at peak times, particularly large trays have to be cleaned in countertop units, the new insert here, too, ensures flexibility.

If phobic patients have to be treated with laughing gas, reprocessing of double hoses and masks represents an additional challenge. From early 2022, Miele will be offering a space-saving solution: A new holder which can hold up to two hoses with a capacity that can even be increased to five. The hoses are connected using adapters to the injector nozzles and routed past all the other inserts in a slightly inclined holder. This ensures reliable cleaning and drying of all internal and external surfaces. A matching mesh tray is available for patients' masks designed for reprocessing. This leaves sufficient space for hollow vessels and further instruments in the same cycle, hence this approach does not interfere with general reprocessing.

In addition, an improved adapter to connect the tips of air and piezo scalers to the water supply of the upper basket is already available. The new construction accommodates more tips than was previously the case, in particular those with a lower section which was too long or too thick for the previous adapter.

If large amounts of suction cannulae are used, these can also be placed in parts of the new E 337/1 inserts or in the new E 149 insert. In these inserts, lumened instruments are held securely in an upright position for reprocessing. Surgical suction cannulae represent an exception as these must be reprocessed on injector nozzles. Through the use of the E 149, the maximum capacity can be increased several times over as it offers room for up to 80 cannulae. It will be available for Miele thermal disinfectors from 1Q22.
