Drying fire-fighting equipment gently – with efficient drying cabinets from Miele

Gütersloh/Hanover, June 20, 2022 No. 042/2022
  • Drying helmets, boots and other kit items all at the same time

  • Maximum load capacity of 6 or 15 kg

To gently dry the protective equipment used by fire-fighters, many manufacturers recommend drying cabinets - both for drying operational jackets and trousers which are suitable for drying, but especially for utensils made from materials which may suffer damage in a tumble dryer. This includes, for example, boots, gloves, belts, wetsuits and cut-proof trousers. Miele is therefore now offering drying cabinets in two sizes and, consequently, a complete portfolio for reprocessing personal equipment from one single source.

The cabinets are available in widths of 60 and 120 cm and, depending on the model, are designed for 6 and 15 kg loads respectively. Items of clothing and accessories are placed in them either on hangers or racks. There are suitable programmes for clothing, helmets, respirators and gloves, which are significantly faster than simply airing. Reproofing agent is also sustainably activated. If necessary, the cabinet can be opened at any time to add more items.

The 60 cm wide Easy Dryer 1900 Extreme model is a compact, flexible unit for drying personal protective equipment and temperature-sensitive apparatus. In it, the programme temperature and running time can be set in three stages - up to 65°C and over a maximum duration of six hours. Helmets, breathing apparatus and similar items can be placed on extendible racks, and there are also six double clothes hooks and two rows of glove holders on the inside of the door. An additional rack for jacket hangers is also available.

For drying and impregnation of protective clothing and rescue wear on hangers, the 120 cm wide DC 120 WW unit is particularly well suited. It offers the two residual moisture-controlled programmes "Normal" (up to 60°C) and "Impregnate" (up to 75°C), which are selected via touch keys. The display shows the programme names in the selected language. An efficient system combining recirculation and exhaust air heating ensures short heat-up and drying phases. Warm air is fed directly into the hanging garments via four ventilation connections, while two side cabinet vents also provide airflow on the outside of garments. As a result, the "Normal" programme is completed in only 95 minutes.

Apart from the regular cleaning of the filters, no further maintenance is required when operating the drying cabinets. Both models are made from high-quality zinc-plated steel, which is corrosion-resistant, robust and durable - an environmentally friendly and highly recyclable product.
