Breathing masks – cleaned and disinfected with short turnaround times

Gütersloh/Hanover, June 8, 2015 No. 069/2015

Reprocessing in a washer-extractor or washer-disinfector

Breathing masks washed and disinfected in only 20 minutes – thanks to washer-extractors and washer-disinfectors from Miele Professional. The most appropriate solution is defined by the volume of equipment to be reprocessed and the space available.

Nine masks can be reprocessed space-savingly in the new PG 8056 U washer-disinfector. Cleaning and disinfection takes place at a maximum temperature of 55°C, with fresh water taken in for each phase of the programme cycle. The process is precisely attuned to thermally sensitive materials such as rubber and plastics. To ensure that the filter and the membrane are cleaned and disinfected with a sufficient margin of safety, masks must be dismantled and affixed using appropriate brackets prior to reprocessing. Mesh trays are available on the upper level for sundry accessories.

The fascia panel on the new washer-disinfectors is particularly easy to clean thanks to the smooth and uninterrupted stainless-steel surface. The machine also has a patented salt container with a capacity of 2 kg. This container is now located in the door and no longer below the chamber. Consequently, salt can be refilled while standing, without having to remove the lower basket or stoop and reach into the machine.

The washer-disinfector can be integrated into a run of cabinetry and can be adjusted to various worktop heights of up to 88 cm without the use of accessories. In this case, a separate drying unit is needed to dry the cleaned masks.

In washer-extractors and tumble dryers from Miele Professional, between 4 and 25 masks can be gently reprocessed. Padded bags protect the visors against scratches. During the wash phase, the drum rotates at only 20 rpm – and a temperature of only 60°C is sufficient for disinfection. Later, in the tumble dryer, special braces hold up to 16 masks in place, depending on the drum size, during a drying programme lasting only 45 minutes. The benefit of this approach is that the masks do not need to be taken apart for reprocessing. In addition to this, the same washer and dryer can be used to reprocess the entire range of fire station laundry: protective clothing, rescue blankets and representative uniforms, where necessary including reproofing.
