Federal Eco Design Prize for Miele G 6000 EcoFlex dishwasher

Gütersloh/Berlin, December 1, 2017 No. 122/2017

EcoTech heat store reduces energy consumption

Award-winning Miele dishwasher from the G 6000 EcoFlex series, on the market since 2016: The coveted EcoDesign prize, jointly awarded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature, Construction and Reactor Safety, the Federal Environmental Agency and the International Design Centre Berlin, this time went to the EcoTech heat store. This device utilises heat from rinse water from the previous water intake to preheat the water for the next main wash, thereby reducing energy consumption considerably. Result: An A+++ minus 20% on the energy label. The award was presented in Berlin by Maria Krautzberger, President of the Federal Environmental Agency.

EcoFlex dishwashers from the G 6000 series were pitted against a total of 324 other submissions in a series of knock-out rounds. The jurors were convinced above all by the careful use of energy in the dishwashing process. The bottom line: 'Heat store technology on these dishwashers, which are for the most part recyclable, reduces energy consumption compared with conventional units by a significant margin'. In total, seven prizes were awarded in four categories.

The EcoTech heat store is located in the side panel and consists of two separated water circuits. One of these circuits transports fresh tap water; the other constitutes a series of loops. The latter contains hot water from the last programme stage which is circulated to pre-heat the fresh water in the reservoir. This means that less electricity is required to heat the incoming water to the required temperature, improving the energy efficiency rating from A+++ to A+++ minus 20%. In average use, this equates to savings of around 50 kWh per year and household. And, all EcoFlex dishwashers can be connected to a hot water supply for further savings.

Furthermore, the EcoFlex series is characterised by its inimitable flexibility when it comes to basket use: Adjustable and hinged elements in both the lower and upper baskets and the cutlery tray combine with height-adjustable FlexCare glass holders in the lower basket – allowing customisation to meet individual needs. Tall stemware is held securely in place in the openings by silicone rests.
