Double win for Miele dishwashers with Stiftung Warentest

Gütersloh, July 27, 2023 No. 073/2023
  • Sole test winner with fully integrated and integrated models

  • Running time of only 3.50 h in Eco programme

For the fifth time in succession, Miele dishwashers clinched first place with Stiftung Warentest, Germany's leading consumer watchdog: Among the 60 cm wide units with top-edge controls (fully integrated), the G 7250 SCVi leads the field. Among the semi-integrated units with visible front controls, its sister model G 7200 SCi, otherwise technically identical, came out top. Both dishwashers were the only contenders to achieve an overall rating of 2.3. In total, 16 units, including 3 slimline models with a width of only 45 cm, were tested. The results were published in the 08/2023 issue of the 'test' magazine on July 27.

Above all, the Eco programmes were the focus of this test as these not only consume least power and water but also virtually always 'clean best' according to the test team. Both Miele dishwashers tested were among the models with a good overall rating for energy and water consumption – as well as with reference to the Automatic programme. The test winners from Miele's Bielefeld plant were also awarded top marks for their good cleaning performance in the Automatic programme and for usability (2.0). With a score of 1.4, they are also among the quietest in the test. As a result, customers benefit from excellent user convenience and pleasant background noise levels with both models.

'This new test win, in particular with a view to the good performance of our Eco programmes, demonstrates once again how we support our customers in making their everyday lives as environmentally friendly as possible', says Patricia Ernst, Vice President Category Marketing Dishwashing with the Miele Group. Over a period of 10 years, the use of Eco programmes results in savings of € 335, Stiftung Warentest has calculated. If, additionally, we through into the mix the fact that Miele is the only manufacturer in its branch to test its dishwashers to last 20 years, this benefit is likely to be twice as high.

EcoPower technology for lower consumption

On the energy label, the Miele products achieve the top A energy efficiency class without compromising on cleaning performance. This is the result of their combination of a special circulation pump, optimised spray arms and a highly efficient filter system (EcoPower technology). As a result, the Eco programme requires 8.4 l of water in the Eco programme and starts at 6 l in Automatic according to the energy label. This is considerably less than it takes to wash dishes at the sink. Furthermore, additional insulation reduces thermal losses and hence the amount of energy required to heat the water. For energy-efficient drying, the door opens automatically to the ajar position at the end of a programme (AutoOpen), allowing moisture to escape.

Further potential savings through hot water connection

The incumbent test winners, like all Miele dishwashers, can be connected to a hot water supply with a maximum temperature of 60°C. This saves on electricity to heat up the water inside the machine. Sustainability is improved even further if renewable energy is used to heat the water, for instance using a solar-thermal array or a heat pump. In an average mix of programmes, this can save up to 35% electricity compared with a model connected to a cold water supply. In the A-rated Eco programme, even savings of up to 46% are feasible as in this case energy consumption is reduced to as little as 0.29 kWh.
