• With up to 35 kilograms of capacity for cleaning textiles

Miele Professional is expanding its portfolio for care homes with their own laundry facilities with extra-large, network-enabled washing machines. With load sizes of 27 and 35 kilograms (PWM 927 and PWM 935) and as part of the ‘Benchmark’-Series, these models can process large quantities of outerwear and disinfected laundry in a short time, delivering significant savings compared to the previous generation.

“The new washing machines are among the most powerful in their class, offering a unique combination of energy efficiency, user-friendliness, laundry care and durability”, says Christian Kluge, Head of the Professional Business Unit at Miele. For example, the largest machines can now wash and thermally disinfect up to 70 bed sheets per cycle – 12,000 more sheets annually than the previous generation’s 32 kilogram models.

A 3D sensor, already a proven feature in the 9 to 20 kilogram ‘Benchmark’ generation machines, detects imbalances, protects against overload and enables high speeds. A G-factor of more than 500 now ensures high spin efficiency during washing, delivering textiles with up to two percent less residual moisture than before: This is made possible by the new BoostSpin function, which guarantees maximum efficiency. At the end of each spin cycle, each piece of laundry is optimally prepared for drying, reducing both cycle times and energy consumption. For example, in combination with a dryer for a 44 kilogram load, a 35 kilogram washing machine can save more than €2,700 per year (depending on local electricity and labour costs). BoostSpin reduces energy consumption in even the largest dryers by up to one kilowatt hour (up to about five percent) per drying cycle. In addition to the potential savings made from the drying process, the cost of washing is also reduced – combined, both deliver annual savings of over €4,200 (again, depending on local prices for energy, water and labour). 

Innovations that pay off

There is also an optional weighing plinth available which automatically records the load size, making the new washing machines even more efficient and enabling even greater savings in water, energy, detergent and time. Another innovation that pays off in daily work situations includes a new heating system for washing machines. It reduces the minimum water level required in the drums from 21 cm to 17 cm, and also reduces cycle times and the amount of water consumed, all without compromising on reprocessing quality. Thanks to the newly configured valves, water flows in faster than ever before, reducing running times even further. The new, patented honeycomb drum 2.0 is equipped with dirt slots that quickly carry coarse particles inside the drum out into the drainage system.

The washing machines are equipped with a stainless steel front and offer more than 90 wash programmes, which are collated into packages tailored to specific user groups, including around six special programmes for RKI-compliant disinfection of personal laundry, work clothes or towels. There are also programmes for workwear, table and kitchen linen, curtains, wellness terry towels or feather and natural hair bedding.

Full-touch colour display simplifies operation

The programmes of the Benchmark washing machines adapt to individual user requirements. Depending on the application, the full-touch colour display offers either a complex or a very simple control interface – each available in over 30 languages, which users can select intuitively at each stage of the programme. Frequently used wash programmes can, for example, be highlighted for more visibility with a coloured frame, making user errors virtually impossible. The smooth, easy-to-clean display surface even works when operated with work gloves.

Each machine is equipped for connectivity with the Miele MOVE Connect digital portal. Here, trained staff can access various operating data, such as viewing the quantities of laundry processed by each machine and how much energy and water was consumed per cycle. Another helpful feature: connections can also be set up to dosing systems and to external solutions such as on-site energy optimisation units. This can ensure that, for example, machines that are not in use are automatically switched off at times of high electricity consumption – such as lunchtime, when the kitchen is busy.

“The new washing machines have already demonstrated outstanding performance in continuous washing tests”, explains Professional Head Christian Kluge. “In long-term tests, for example, they completed 30,000 programme cycles. Miele only uses high-quality production materials at our Lehrte plant in Germany.”
