Elegant and efficient: The new extractor units from Miele

When it comes to the design of cooker hoods, world collide. For some, a cooker hood is an eye-catcher in the kitchen; for others they should blend in with surrounding furniture and go about their work inconspicuously. New extractor units from Miele are unobtrusive and yet elegant – and consume only a minimum of energy.

An extractor unit integrated into a wall unit or an individually designed canopy reduces the concept of a cooker hood to basics: on the outside, only the extraction surface and controls are visible. Miele's new extractor units are characterised by their very slim build. With a depth of only 30 cm, they are ideal for integration into shallow wall units popular in modern kitchens as they add a touch of levity.

Extractor units are available in three widths – 60, 90 and 120 cm. The suction area on these models is covered by a plain panel which guides rising steam and vapours outwards towards a narrow grille around the edges. On entering the units, air passes through concealed stainless-steel grease filters (and an additional active charcoal filter in recirculation mode).

The visible trim and the panel on the 60 cm model are made from stainless steel. 90 cm and 120 cm models are also optionally available in brilliant white. On this version, the panel is made from white safety glass but can, like the stainless-steel panel, be removed for cleaning in a dishwasher.

All three models are A-rated for energy efficiency according to the new energy labelling scheme for cooker hoods which came into effect in January 2015. To achieve this, Miele uses highly durable LED downlights and an energy-efficient DC fan on these extractors. This fan also contributes towards even reducing sound emissions in Setting 3, the highest of power settings which is seldomly needed in everyday use.

A common feature on all three models is Con@ctivity 2.0 which adjusts suction power to what is actually happening on the hob down below. The Miele hob unit – and there are many models to select from – transmits its settings via an RF link to the extractor. The installation of Con@ctivity 2.0 is very simple and merely involves inserting the RF transmitter which comes with the extractor into its sheath.

Miele extractor units can be operated in vented or recirculation mode or even in combination with an external fan (120 cm model operates in vented and external modes only). A remote handset is also available for these models as an optional extra.
