New 'PureLine' and 'ContourLine' Miele built-in appliance design lines cater for individual demands for high-end living

Two new design lines shape the image of the new Generation 6000 range of built-in appliances from Miele. The PureLine and ContourLine design lines each have their unique and inimitable styles and harmonise with various kitchen designs. New fronts and handles and innovative displays and user interfaces add classy touches to the new design lines.

Form and function in unison

At Miele, design is never an end in itself; it always occurs in symbiosis with maximum functionality. In terms of Generation 6000 built-in appliances, this means that new displays and user interfaces must make interaction with the machines simpler than ever before. No matter whether consumers select an innovative TFT display with the type of navigation familiar from smartphones or more traditional rotary selectors, use of the machine is highly intuitive. Irrespective of the type of user interface, the new Miele appliances have much in common. Take, for example, the pushbutton array below the display on the glass fascia. This gives the user direct access to key functions such as On/Off or the 'Back' key. These fundamental and cross-product design features offer one huge benefit: Customers preferring a wall oven with rotary selectors can combine their oven conveniently with a coffee machine with touch controls – and both are a pleasing match.

PureLine or ContourLine – a question of personal style

One key feature of PureLine is the high proportion of glass in the frontage which gives a sense of lightness to this design range. Operating controls and displays are integrated into the glass fascia. 'A striking feature on models in CleanSteel stainless steel are the two (stainless-steel) decor strips along the top of the fascia and the bottom edge of the door – further enhanced by the distinctive handle which further accentuates the horizontal axis. As the handle pedestals pick up on the colour of the glass front, the handle appears to levitate above the surface.

The PureLine design line harmonises with modern and contemporary living styles, a modern kitchen and living environment being characterised by a puristic and linear design which induces a senses of transparency and is often encountered in interior architecture in combination with large glass surfaces. The most common living style today is what is often classified as 'contemporary'. The key features here are the use of a variety of materials and surface finishes which leave a harmonious overall impression.

The ContourLine range is distinctly different from PureLine. Although, here too, the glass fascia with its integrated controls sets new emphasis, the key differentiating characteristic is the large proportion of stainless steel, used for example to create a frame around the oven door. The machine handle appears to be an integral part of this frame and takes in the entire width of the unit. ContourLine harmonises particularly well with contemporary and traditional kitchen designs. 'Traditional' is generally considered as being a style which is characterised by a wealth of detail, making use of sculptured surfaces with a wooden or painted finish. A playful design can result in a very cosy and homely atmosphere, as for example in country-style or Quaker kitchens.

Whether PureLine or ContourLine – one of the greatest strengths of the new generation of appliances is its 'fleet' design. This approach allows products from entirely different categories to be combined to form a harmonious ensemble. This begins with the Gourmet warming drawer which, in combination with an oven, steam cooker or coffee machine, provides a seamless match, incorporating of course even microwave ovens. And the Generation 6000 design even embraces cooker hoods. Consequently, any array of Miele built-in appliances – whether vertical or horizontal – results in an arrangement which appears to have come from the same mould.

New appliance colours for creative diversity

Alongside adherence to particular architectural styles, colour has also a profound impact on the overall impression of a kitchen. And Miele is now set to inspire lovers of fine kitchens with new colours. In a cross-product approach, customers can choose within the PureLine range from 'Obsidian black', 'Havana brown', 'Brilliant white' and 'CleanSteel stainless steel' (a very easy-to-clean finish which puts paid to fingerprints). Within the ContourLine range appliances in CleanSteel stainless steel prevail. Only selected models are also available in Obsidian black, Havana brown and Brilliant white.

No other manufacturer of built-in appliances covers such a broad spectrum of colours and materials, enabling such a range of options to ensure harmoniously matching colour schemes.

Obsidian black is characterised by great depth of colour and brilliance. Appliance handles are made from aluminium.

Cabinetry fronts in natural, warm tones are currently en vogue. In this case, Miele built-in appliances in Havana Brown represent an ideal match. Havana brown is a contemporary colour which allows coherent combinations in both new-build kitchens and as slot-in replacements. Havana brown units are fitted with a handle in stainless steel.

Brilliant White relies on the same white as used previously – but this time with even greater brilliance. Compared with predecessors, the proportion of white on the frontage has been increased. Models in Brilliant White feature a chrome-plated handle.

And, last but not least, CleanSteel stainless steel. This exceptionally cleaning-friendly stainless-steel finish has had a considerable following for years. The use of stainless steel on PureLine products is discreet, whereas its use on ContourLine models is accentuated.
