Hygiene and performance: Miele Professional
barrier washer-extractors

No. 047/2013
Aktuelle Generation der Miele Professional-Waschmaschinen in Trennwandausführung

Low initial moisture levels for short drying cycles

By drastically reducing residual moisture levels, the current generation of barrier washer-extractors from Miele Professional sets industry standards: By achieving levels of below 50%, these outstanding models are best in class. Laundry containing little moisture guarantees that cycle times in tumble dryers, the most energy-intensive stage of laundry care, are kept short. This effectively both cuts costs and saves time.

New on these machines is a rinse performance (g factor) now improved by more than 10% on 16 kg barrier washer-extractors. This ensures more thorough dewatering and improves the efficiency of drying and ironing.

Barrier washer-extractors are also available from Miele Professional with 24 and 32 kg load capacities. Common to all models are the options they offer to reduce consumption. Before the start of a programme, cycle parameters can
be adjusted by keying in the actual weight of laundry. This optimises water, energy and detergent consumption. An optional weighing plinth even goes as far as automating this process entirely, yet still complying fully with relevant hygiene guidelines.

All three models are available with various types of heating. Dual heating, allowing users to switch between electric and direct steam heating, offers an alternative when steam is not available. In addition to this, barrier machines are also available with indirect steam or electric heating.

To ensure process monitoring from the point of view of hygiene, for example in disinfection cycles, and to keep check of energy consumption for reasons of economy, all wash cycle data can be read out from a data acquisition module and documented using appropriate software.

Like all washer-extractors from Miele, these machines all feature Miele's patented honeycomb drum. Thanks to its web-like, sculptured surface, the honeycomb drum creates a thin film of water on which laundry glides gently. During spinning, fabrics are far less likely to be forced into the drum perforations, resulting in much gentler laundry care.

Drum auto-positioning and locking

Barrier-type machines from Miele are safe and simple to use. Once a wash cycle is complete, the drum rotates slowly until it is perfectly aligned with the outfeed hatch thanks to the auto-positioning system. There, it is safely locked in position: Awkwardly rotating the drum by hand – as required on many other brands – is not necessary. Larger door openings and an ideal loading height simplify and speed up loading and unloading. Furthermore, their slim build makes it easy to access sites with these machines.

Wash cycles are selected and launched from a large display on the infeed side of the machine. The display on the outfeed side merely shows the machine's operating status. Miele's Profitronic M controls offer up to 199 programme slots. A standard feature on these machines is the 'Hygiene' programme package for institutional care homes and hospitals, bringing together programmes for sluice laundry and hospital textiles as well as disinfection, bedding and curtain programmes, special cycles for reprocessing mops as well as wet-cleaning programmes (WetCare).
