New hob units: innovative technology combined with classic convenience

Many a cook swears by handy rotary controls. Customers wishing to combine this classical approach with modern induction technology now have access to a powerful range of hob units.
Performance and flexibility are the key features of the new machines. Hence, these models, available in a variety of sizes and with varying frames, each feature a WaterBoost zone. With an output of 5 kW, this feature ensures incredibly short heat-up times.


Two PowerFlex rings feature on the right-hand half of the unit. They adjust flexibly to cookware and offer maximum output when cooking with casserole dishes and oversized pots and pans. These PowerFlex rings can be combined to provide a much larger area. This rectangular zone is ideally suited to large casserole dishes. Optionally, individual zones can be combined into one single large ring. This is of particular benefit when bringing water to the boil in a large pan. Another special feature of PowerFlex technology from Miele is the extremely uniform transfer of heat to the base of pots and pans. This is achieved through the virtually gap-free arrangement of induction coils below the ceramic glass screen. This steady transfer of energy to the food creates the ideal conditions for perfect cooking results.

Operation is via high-quality metal knobs arranged along the side of the ceramic screen. The assignment to rings is logical, with users reaching intuitively for the right knob. The power settings for each ring appear in the display with its orange 7-segment indicators.

When it comes to frames, customers are spoilt for choice: One model, in particular, shows great affinity to the other built-in appliances from Miele's Generation 6000: two pieces of stainless-steel trim, one each front and back, elegantly frame the screen. Similar decorative strips are encountered on the fascias of stainless-steel kitchen appliances. Alternatively, one model each with a wide, protruding frame and a model for flush installation are available.

The benefits of induction cooking at a glance

● Unlike conventional cooking with gas or electricity, induction generates heat directly in the base of pots and pans. This is achieved using copper coils which produce an alternating electromagnetic field. When a pan is placed on a ring, the electromagnetic field is distorted, releasing heat. This heat is transferred directly to the food being cooked. Likewise, removing a pan from the ceramic hob instantaneously terminates the transfer of energy.

● Induction represents cooking with a turbo booster. The output selected is available with immediate effect as there is no need to first heat the ceramic screen and then the pan base. This results in extremely short heat-up times.

● And, as the ceramic screen is not heated in the process, splashes of oil and fat cannot burn on. This makes cleaning after cooking considerably simpler. And here's another positive side-effect: A ring cools down so quickly that it soon poses virtually no risk to the user.

● Precise control of energy allows food to be cooked to a T. Unlike more conventional methods, food does not continue to cook on residual heat.
