Miele at Internorga 2019: Better wash and rinse performance on a small footprint

Gütersloh/Hamburg, January 10, 2019 No. 1/2019
  • New washing machines and undercounter dishwashers reduce running costs and consumption
  • Miele presentation covering almost 100 m²

Significant reductions in consumption and simpler operation: These are the key advantages of the new washing machines, tumble dryers and tank dishwashers for commercial applications to be presented by Miele at Internorga 2019. Whereas the products themselves take up little space on account of their compact design, Miele's exhibition at the show is spacious: On an area covering almost 100 m², restaurant owners and hoteliers will be able to experience the current portfolio of the Gütersloh-based company live in Hamburg from March 15 - 19 (Building A 3, Booth 308).

Generational change: Miele's Little Giant washing machines and tumble dryers, a familiar fixture in the marketplace for decades, are to be replaced in April by two model series completely designed from scratch. As previously, they require only half a square meter of space yet offer greater loading flexibility. Machines from the 'Performance' series have a load capacity of up to 7 kg of laundry. Clients opting for the 'Performance Plus' series can decide between load capacities of 6, 7 or 8 kg. Compared with the previous version, the new giants offer up to 25% more capacity for laundry.

All models have one thing in common: They are specialists in tackling commercial-grade soiling, and the shortest cycle takes only 49 minutes. Water consumption has been reduced by up to 22%; electricity savings peak at 28%. And cycle times are shorter, too: The fastest programme on vented models lasts only 38 minutes, and the heat-pump dryer now requires less than 60 minutes, just two-thirds of the previous cycle time.

New honeycomb drum for faster wetting of textiles

This is the result of interaction between several components. Textiles are more intensively wetted than previously in the enhanced and patented Miele honeycomb drum thanks to additional perforations in the drum rear panel. This effect is further intensified by a special wash rhythm in which a slow rotational speed allows copious amounts of water to shower down onto the load. Once the drum speed is increased, water and soil residue is forcefully rinse out – combining top-class cleanliness with the gentlest of treatment of laundry.

Tried-and-tested programme packages such as 'Hotels' (geared to bed, table and kitchen linen) are available from the controls of the new machines. Using a new touch display, the machine controls are simple and reminiscent of a smartphone – in up to 32 languages. A new fluff filter in the dryer which now only needs cleaning less frequently and a 'container empty' sensor for liquid detergent ensure smooth processes in everyday work.

Machines from the 'Performance Plus' series are equipped ex works with WLAN and offer connectivity with the MielePro@mobile app. In a large hotel, for example, they indicate at all times which washing machines and tumble dryers are in operation at any given time and provide information on the availability of detergent – even from a distance. Further intelligent settings allow the effortless connection of payment and dispenser systems and simplify a range of tasks in workaday life.

Glass washers: Water consumption reduced by 25%

Miele's well-known undercounter tank dishwashers will also be relaunched in May in a new and enhanced version. Thanks to simplified controls, incorrect operation can be virtually eliminated. In this case, an optimised cleaning system reduces operating costs. A 46 cm wide glass washer for use behind the counter now for instance only requires 2 l of rinse water. In the 'Eco' programme which was already economical, the volume of rinse water has been reduced to as little as 1.8 l. Depending on the programme, this results in up to 25% water savings. By implication, this means that the system also requires less energy and detergent.

Miele is to present its entire portfolio of products during the exhibition which reduces the workload in hotels and hospitals: Systematic approaches to running an OPL and special applications in the field of wellness using washing machines and dryers with load capacities of up to 32 kg, as well as flatwork ironers in a variety of sizes and dishwashers – from compact glass washers through to hooded passthrough systems. Visitors will be provided with information on financing and leasing as well as the latest versions of the 'Hotel 360' brochure and the 'welcome & stay' magazine providing tips and tricks for the hotel and restaurant trade.
