Miele introduces range cookers to Europe

Gütersloh/Milan, March 15, 2016 No. 041/2016

Oven ranges, extractors and cooktops in XXL American format:

In 2015, Miele tested the waters for the first time in Germany with a new range cooker. The response from dealers and end-users was overwhelming. And the decision now stands: Miele is to introduce its XXL range cooker, original developed for North America, to Europe – and not only one model but an entire product family.

The range family consists of range cookers in widths of 76 cm (30"), 92 cm (36") and 122 cm (48"). These are joined by range hoods in matching widths. In essence, these are decor hoods made from stainless steel and intended for wall installation or extractor units for use in cabinetry or custom-built canopies. The product family is rounded off by range tops: large independent hob units in widths of 92 and 122 cm featuring up to 6 gas burners and a griddle.

'The range family combines the American way of life with Miele's high-end appliance technology', says Gernot Trettenbrein, head of the Domestic Appliance International business unit. 'Spurred on by the highly positive feedback at initial presentations, we will now be introducing these appliances to Europe in early 2017'. A decision on the models available in individual countries will be made over the coming months.

Max. oven volume: 163 l

Range cookers start with two 30" units (76 cm wide) which differ in terms of one feature: The HR 1622 features four induction rings; the HR 1924 has four gas burners. Both 30" units have identical oven features. These include a cabinet with a volume of 131 l.

By comparison: A conventional 60 cm Miele oven has a capacity of 76 l and counts among the biggest in its category.

In order to ensure that the ovens on range cookers reach temperature fast, they are fitted with a twin hot-air fan. Next up is the HR 1936 (92 cm wide). The cabinet volume on this model is an unbelievable 163 l, unprecedented by European standards. Cooking is performed on four gas rings and a centred griddle.

Top model as five-in-one unit

Most versatile of all is the top model, the HR 1956. This model offers two ovens: the larger as a conventional unit (92 l); the smaller is an oven with microwave (43 l). An additional warmer drawer for keeping food and crockery warm and cooking meat using the low-temperature method is also available. The cooktop offers six gas rings plus a griddle. All included, this makes the HR 1956 a five-in-one product.

All range cookers combine joint features which will be familiar to Miele customers from the top-of-the-range models from the Generation 6000 (current range of built-in models). These include a patented and wireless food probe, Moisture Plus cooking (enhanced baking and roasting thanks to the addition of moisture), PyroFit accessories which can remain in the oven during pyrolytic cleaning and M Touch controls with a user interface reminiscent of a smartphone.

American way of life in Miele quality

Design-wise, the range cookers boast a relationship with the current Generation 6000 built-in appliances and hence lend themselves to combinations. The American way of life expresses itself above all in the details: The dominant material is stainless steel. This best matches with solid, backlit rotary knobs and articulated handles which facilitate the opening of appliance doors. From the viewpoint of ergonomics, the fascia with its M Touch display, which slopes automatically for better legibility, is an intelligent fine detail.

Marketing manager Gernot Trettenbrein is convinced of the success of range cookers here in Europe: 'With such a wealth of USPs, Miele is adding impetus to range cookers, a category which is characterised by simple and conventional product offerings.'
