Miele lands new double dishwasher victory with Stiftung Warentest

Gütersloh, July 21, 2022 No. 057/2022
  • Both fully integrated and integrated models best appliances

  • Most economical and quietest dishwasher in test

  • StiWa summary: 'The mature performance of a winner'

Two Miele dishwashers sit atop the winner's podium at Stiftung Warentest: The G 7160 SCVi AutoDos put in a compelling performance all along the line among the fully integrated models (top-edge controls). In the category of integrated models with a visible fascia panel, the otherwise technically identical model G 7110 SCi AutoDos was the sole winner. As the only candidate in the test, both 60 cm wide Miele dishwashers achieved an overall mark of 2.1. A total of 18 models, including 15 with a width of 60 cm and three 45 cm slimline units, came under scrutiny. In the end, Miele convincingly defended its double victory from the 2021 dishwasher test. The current results were published in the 08/2022 issue of the 'test' magazine on July 21.

The editors heaped particular praise on the automatic programme featured by both test winners ('best automatic programme' in test), in particular for its electricity and water consumption paired with good cleaning performance. For reasons of comparability, this was tested using single-ingredient tablets, water softener salt and rinse aid in the case of all contestants. Consequently, it was not possible to award additional points to the Miele AutoDos dispensing system with integrated PowerDisk for its cleaning power and convenience.

Words of appreciation were also found by the testers for the 'lowest operating costs in the good Eco programme' on Miele models, which is the only one of the test candidates to achieve a B rating for energy efficiency according to the new and far more stringent energy label. Over a period of 10 years, this saves almost € 300, based on a comparison with one of the other models tested which was classified as having a D rating for energy efficiency. Considering that Miele is the only manufacturer in its branch to test its dishwashers to last 20 years, this benefit is even likely to be twice as high.

As the only models to achieve top marks, the test winner from Miele ranked first for Handling (2.1), Sound emissions (1.2) – and Safety (1.6), which among other aspects included workmanship and protection against injuries. 'These new test victors with Stiftung Warentest underline once again the performance, quality and sustainability of our products', says Melanie Aselmann, Vice President Category Marketing in the Miele Group's 'Dishwashing' business unit. And the Miele dishwashers mastered the almost 10 years of use simulated in endurance testing (at least 2700 cycles per unit) with flying colours and without errors.

Low consumption and automatic dispensing protect climate and environment

Low water consumption starting at only 6 l in the 'Automatic' programme is the result of EcoPower technology with its special circulation pump, its optimised spray arms and its efficient filtration system. Patented AutoOpen drying which opens the door at the end of a programme to the ajar position in order to release moisture-laden hot air to significantly improve drying results, even on glass, plastics and melamine, is one of the keys to saving energy and cutting cycle times. In addition to this, these machines feature a hot water connection which reduces energy consumption by a further 50%.

In the case of the Miele-exclusive AutoDos dispensing system with integrated PowerDisk, a powder granulate specially developed for the purpose is automatically dispensed to reflect the selected programme or the degree of soiling (manual adjustment possible). Of course, all Miele dishwashers continue to feature the classic two-compartment dispenser in the door where tabs, powder and rinse aid can be dispensed conventionally. The PowerDisk container consists of cleaned and reprocessed plastic waste (post-consumer recyclate). The detergent used in the PowerDisk All in 1 ECO is based on ingredients of vegetable origin, is free from microplastics, fragrances, preservatives and colouring, and dispenses entirely with benzotriazole, a substance used to protect silver.

Since March 2021, EU legislators have ratcheted up the criteria for the energy label to such a degree that even the most economical models under the old regime fall short of the new top A energy efficiency rating. Naturally, technicians in the R&D laboratories at Miele's Bielefeld plant have pulled out all the stops in order to offer consumers dishwashers with top label ratings under the provisions of the new energy label. Since the end of 2021, Miele has been able to offer almost all Miele dishwashers from the G 7000 generation in energy efficiency class A – alongside the current test winners with a B rating.
