Miele Professional – the milestones

Gütersloh, June 23, 2022 No. 051b/2022

1924

The first drum washing machines for commercial use, heated with gas or coal, are seen as marking the start of Miele Professional. The clients Miele has in mind are laundries, hotels, hospitals and sanatoriums.

1961

Miele launches dishwashers for cafés and restaurants as well as special-purpose washers for surgical instruments and laboratory glassware. Production takes place at the Bielefeld plant.

1962

The first Miele plant outside Germany is founded in Bürmoos near Salzburg in Austria - as a bridgehead in what was then the EFTA free trade zone. After initially producing mainly small washing machines, spin dryers and hand irons, the plant today supplies, for example, the stainless-steel inserts for washer-disinfectors..

1965

Since the takeover of the former Gillette plant in Lehrte near Hanover, commercial laundry care products have been manufactured there - instead of razor blades.

1971

For hospitals, there are now special-purpose washers with programme card controls for anesthetics, ENT, gynaecology and other disciplines.

1977

Little Giants for use in small businesses start a success story that continues to this day - by combining the compact design of domestic washers and dryers with particularly robust commercial technology.

1979

The G 7717 two-door washer-disinfector facilitates the segregation of the unclean (infeed) side from the clean (outfeed) sides for the first time.

1986

Miele takes over the Cordes flatwork ironer manufacturer in Oelde - where today mainly ovens are produced, whilst ironers have been relocated to the Lehrte plant.

1989

Miele launches a barrier washer-extractor for laundry requiring disinfection in accordance with the strict standards of occupational safety regulations for laundries and is ideal for hospitals and nursing homes.

1991

The WetCare aqueous wash process enables textiles labelled as "non-washable" to be washed and dried without difficulty - a joint development with the Wiesbaden-based textile chemicals specialist Kreussler.

1995

The first generation of large-capacity disinfectors is equipped with freely programmable Profitronic electronic controls, which allow up to 64 programmes to be individually compiled.

2004

Miele launches Oxivario Plus reprocessing, which enables the cleaning of medical instruments classified as critical by the Robert Koch Institute. The process is later successfully tested on prions with regard to its effectiveness (pathogens causing CJD).

2010

Miele Professional becomes a system provider for planning, equipping and maintaining sterile supply departments in surgeries and clinics, covering all reprocessing stages including process chemicals as well as hardware and software solutions for data documentation.

2016

In cooperation with the Italian launderette chain Lava Più, Miele presents a concept for turnkey laundry facilities.

2017

Miele acquires the Italian medical technology specialist Steelco which becomes the focus of its entire hospital project business.

2021

The Lehrte plant produces the mobile air purifier Miele AirControl, which filters out and renders harmless more than 99.995% of all viruses and other airborne particles from indoor air at the rate of six times an hour.

2022

In a new generation of heat pump dryers, Miele uses R450a refrigerant, which has only 42 percent of the global warming potential of the refrigerant it replaces.
