Miele Professional - New load carrier for ophthalmic instruments

Gütersloh/Düsseldorf, November 14, 2016 No. 128/2016

Largest capacity accommodating up to 16 trays per cycle

Load carriers for ophthalmic surgical instruments can now for the first time accommodate 8 mesh trays with lumened instruments – and just as many trays for other solid instruments. The new A 207 load carrier for instruments from this medical discipline with the largest capacity on the market is designed for use in 60 or 90 cm wide undercounter washer-disinfectors from Miele Professional. The market launch is planned for the first quarter of 2017.

These washer-disinfectors, models PG 8582, PG 8582 CD and PG 8592, wash and disinfect the entire range of instruments used in ophthalmic surgery. The new load carrier allows the connection of all trays to a central supply rail. Lumened instruments automatically couple with the water circuit, ensuring safe interior irrigation of instruments such as irrigation hand-pieces or phaeco tips. The ideal inclination of the trays significantly reduces the amount of water which clings to instruments, trays and the load carrier. The load carrier offers additional space for trays with scalpels, lid retractors and scissors.

These multi-purpose trays were developed by Geuder AG from Heidelberg, a leading manufacturer of the machines and instrument systems used in eye surgery, in collaboration with Miele Professional. The real advantage of this approach lies in the fact that there is no need to separate surgical sets prior to reprocessing, resulting in sets staying together and being ready for use again faster.

The new system has already undergone hospital trials and all processes were successfully validated. It offers maximum protection for patients and is further supported by the technology on board the washer-disinfectors which Miele Professional has been selling for the past 2 years. This system for example monitors spray arm rotation and spray pressure to ensure consistency in reprocessing. Thanks to Miele's patented speed-controlled pump, the machine adjusts water pressure to the requirements of individual programme stages.

All this results in top-class performance combined with the sparing use of resources. A central reusable and easy-to-clean tubular filter protects delicate ophthalmic instruments from particulate matter in the wash liquor – and ensures the safe cleaning of lumens. An integrated conductivity module guarantees sufficiently low levels of residual alkalinity after the final rinse.

Miele's integrated DryPlus hot-air drying system was specifically developed to cope with intricate and narrow-lumened instruments. It enables the reliable drying of internal surfaces. An upstream Class H 13 HEPA filter removes any ambient particles which may otherwise become lodged inside instruments.
