Miele Professional offers an efficient systematic approach for instrument reprocessing in veterinary practices

Gütersloh, July 2, 2025 No. 060/2025
  • New, network-enabled cleaning and disinfection devices with chamber lighting

  • Small sterilisers, process chemicals, and tray and container systems

When pets fall ill, their owners expect the best possible treatment from the vet, as well as surgical instruments that are cleaned and disinfected to human standards. Mechanical instrument reprocessing is recommended by the Robert Koch Institute and ensures maximum hygiene safety: it minimises the risk of infection for animals and veterinary staff and is also significantly more economical than manual procedures. Miele Professional therefore offers a systematic approach for veterinary practices and clinics that includes cleaning and disinfection appliances, small sterilisers, matching baskets and inserts, and coordinated process chemicals.

The advantages of the system: Instruments are available in the practices at all times, even during operations. This significantly increases efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Above all, however, it achieves the same standard of hygiene as in human medicine and significantly reduces the risk of cross-contamination.

The new ExpertLine series offers 60-cm-wide, network-enabled undercounter machines. For the first time, an illuminated wash cabinet simplifies loading and unloading. The language displayed on the intuitive colour touchscreen can be changed at any time. The current status of reprocessing is easy to read even from a distance of several metres. Cycles can be released directly on the device, which simplifies process documentation. It also provides practice personnel with digital support for routine tasks that can be carried out independently – with visual elements that make operation easier, provide ‘help for self-help’ and can reduce downtime. For flexibility, up to 21 programmes and 5 free programme slots are available for individual requirements.

A patented, variable-speed pump adjusts the water pressure as required. A spray arm and spray pressure monitoring feature monitors the progress of the programmes and detects blockages caused by large instruments, for example. Two drying systems support the optimised workflows. In addition to appliances with active drying, models with an AutoOpen function are also available. The door opens automatically at the end of the programme as soon as the temperature in the wash cabinet has reached a safe level. This allows the remaining air to escape quickly and the instruments to dry rapidly.

Solutions for instruments from different disciplines

As veterinary practices require instruments from various disciplines, the EasyStore tray and container system can be flexibly equipped. This includes trays, sterile containers and accessories that reduce staff requirements in the preparation room and lower costs. With consistent use, time-consuming placement of individual instruments in the device is no longer necessary.

ExpertLine undercounter machines offer high capacity for surgical instruments and operating theatre accessories: for instance, up to eight sieve trays in one cycle, three sets of anaesthesia equipment or 28 surgical shoe covers. Up to 44 hollow instruments can also be reliably reprocessed – including being cleaned on the inside. After eye surgery, a stainless steel filter enables particularly thorough filtration of organic particles.

For all disciplines, all new cleaning and disinfection machines and the small sterilisers in the Cube and Cube X product lines can be network-enabled. They allow connection to the Miele MOVE MedDent+ digital platform. This allows machine data to be viewed on mobile devices and process data to be documented from any location. Any number of machines can be connected and access for employees is unlimited.

Small sterilisers with short cycle times

The small sterilisers from Miele Professional can also be network-enabled and feature a colour touch display. With chamber volumes of 17 and 22 litres respectively and short cycle times for a B-class cycle, they ensure that instruments are made available again quickly. In addition, these models are equipped with the new EcoDry technology, which adjusts the drying time to the load weight. This reduces reprocessing time by up to 30 percent, extends the service life of the instruments and reduces energy consumption. The machines can be quickly connected to a water treatment system, ensuring automatic and time-saving supply of fully demineralised water. Alternatively, the integrated tank can be filled manually.

Miele rounds off its systematic approach for veterinary practices with an optimised range of process chemicals (ProCare Med) tailored to the requirements of individual machines and reprocessing phases: gentle liquid detergents, neutralising agents – available in organic or inorganic versions – and a rinse aid that dries quickly thanks to its special formulation. ProCare Med includes a mildly alkaline liquid detergent that is suitable for removing residues even from handpieces.
