Miele robovac winner with Stiftung Warentest

Gütersloh/Berlin, August 31, 2022 No. 068/2022
  • Scout RX3 leads robotic vacuum cleaner field
  • Unchallenged top marks for 'Cleaning on hard floors' and 'Practicality for daily use'

Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD was voted test winner by German consumer watchdog Stiftung Warentest. This verdict was based on the October 2021 test which put robovacs and robot mops through their paces. As this version of the Scout was not yet on sale at the time, this model was subsequently tested and added to the initial test results.

In the 'Robovac' category, six models were compared – of which the Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD achieved the best overall mark of 2.1 ('Good'). Among others, the test covered criteria such as cleaning on hard floors and carpets, handling, practicality for everyday use, safety, and the data security of the associated app. When it came to 'Cleaning on hard floors' ('Very good'; 1.5) and 'Practicality for everyday use' ('Good'; 2.4), the Scout achieved the sole top mark in each case. And the product thoroughly convinced the testers when it comes to safety ('Very good'; 1.0).

The Scout RX3's outstanding suction power is the result of its tried-and-tested Quattro Cleaning Power 4-stage system. First, rotating side brushes transport soil into the area below the unit. Next, a beater bar brushes above all coarse debris into the wide suction aperture at the front before a strong stream of air sucks in any remaining fine dust through a second and narrower opening. Thanks to a powerful fan, dirt ends up secure in the cleaner's dustbox. A technical optimisation of the motor, increased air performance and a brush roller with harder bristles ensure that the robovac is even better at removing fine dust, especially from carpets.

Thanks to two front cameras, the appliance with its 20-arm side brushes cleans in all nooks and crannies and systematically vacuums every square centimetre of the entire home. The stereo camera system sees rooms and objects in 3D and can use this information to precisely calculate sizes and distances. Seven infra-red sensors at the front of the unit protect against collisions with furniture and other objects – even in pitch darkness. Three further infra-red sensors below the unit detect for example staircase steps, preventing the unit from tumbling down a flight of stairs. With a height of only 8.5 cm, the robotic vacuum cleaner fits effortlessly below cupboards and sofas for thorough cleaning. The rechargeable 5,200 mAh lithium ion battery provides 170 minutes of cleaning, equating to an area of up to 140 square metres.

A further outstanding feature was the data transmission from the app ('Good'; 1.8). The Scout RX3 Home Vision HD model sports a HD camera which transmits high-resolution images, end-to-end encrypted, straight to an end device. This means that a simple glance at the newly developed Miele Scout app* when on the go is sufficient to ensure that everything at home is as it should be. Using the app, it is also possible to assign cleaning times to days of the week and areas to be cleaned. This makes sense, for example, when the floor under the dining table is to be cleaned after every meal but the living room vacuumed once a day.

*The Scout app is an additional digital service from Miele & Cie. KG or Miele partner companies respectively. All smart applications are enabled by the Miele@home system. The range of functions may vary depending on the model and the country.
