Fire services are set to benefit from significantly more reliable reprocessing of respiratory protection equipment. Miele Professional is expanding its portfolio of washer-disinfectors with the addition of the Safety AirPro, which features an integrated compressed air supply. This ensures that air regulators remain under constant pressure throughout the entire reprocessing process, effectively preventing water or chemicals from reaching sensitive components. In so doing, the technology lays the foundations for processes that can be validated in accordance with current hygiene and health & safety requirements, while also ensuring consistently high and reproducible levels of safety.

Why safe reprocessing is crucial

The safety of respiratory protection systems is dependent on every detail. If moisture or process chemicals penetrate the valves and hoses of the air regulators during reprocessing, this has consequences: membranes stick; mechanisms respond slowly or not at all. When respiratory protection fails, it is lives that are at stake, not technology.

This is where Miele Professional and Safety AirPro come in. This solution offers a seamless combination of safety and user convenience. Unlike the previous solution, the compressed air supply is fully integrated within the machine and is supplied automatically for the entire duration of the reprocessing cycle. This new technology will be available in the new ExpertLine models, the PLW 8683 and PLW 8693 Safety AirPro, from July 2026. Both models feature DryPlus hot air drying. A retrofit kit is also available for the SlimLine PLW 7111 Safety model, enabling existing machines to be upgraded with the new technology.

Flexible, systematic approach and retrofitting

The launch of this new range sees Miele Professional replacing the previous ExpertLine Safety models with the new Safety AirPro variants. Alongside the integrated compressed air supply, the system includes new hose connections, adapted connector systems and specially designed load carriers for the safe reprocessing of respiratory protection components.

The new APLW 342 insert supplements the Safety AirPro system for undercounter machines. It provides space for up to six air regulators and features an integrated compressed air supply. The design ensures that the connectors are reliably protected against water ingress. The insert can be used flexibly in either the upper or lower basket. Two small-parts baskets and a set of colour-coding tags make it even easier to stay organised in day-to-day fire-service operations.

SlimLine large-chamber washers, which are only 650 mm wide, will also be equipped with Safety AirPro technology in future. A retrofit solution in the form of an active compressed air supply is available for the PLW 7111 Safety, meaning that existing machines can also be upgraded accordingly. Its technical design is largely based on the new ExpertLine models and also allows for a direct compressed air supply via the machine. The new APLW 632 insert can hold up to four regulators and can be fitted two at a time in the upper and lower baskets. Quick-release connectors ensure a simple and secure fit for all machines.

Miele Professional will be unveiling Safety AirPro for the first time at Interschutz 2026 in Hanover, where it will demonstrate how the latest generation of respiratory protection reprocessing works in practice. The new machines and retrofit solutions will be available as of July 2026.
