Miele sets new washing machine and tumble dryer standards at IFA

Berlin, September 4, 2013 No. 159/2013

Best cleaning performance thanks to 'PowerWash' and 'TwinDos' / All new tumble dryers now with heat pump technology / Exclusive door opening function on Miele dishwashers / Markus Miele: 'We continue to grow!'

Hygienically clean laundry in less than one hour – and the world's first integrated detergent dispensing system for virtually all textiles and soiling types. These are the most spectacular features of W1 washing machines which Miele today presented to the press at the IFA trade show. A further example from the portfolio of new products and features includes dishwashers to match Generation 6000 built-in appliances.

This generation change in Miele laundry care, awaited with great anticipation, consists of the W1 series of washing machines and the T1 range of tumble dryers, also celebrating their world premiere at IFA. 'In both cases, Miele is offering a whole host of USPs in a bid to offer even better performance and convenience', said Frank Jüttner, Managing Director of Miele Germany, at a press conference convened by the company. This includes a set of basic features across all models which has never been seen before. Two days before the official opening of this year's IFA, Jüttner presented the new products and features to journalists together with the Managing Directors and Co-Proprietors Dr Markus Miele and Dr Reinhard Zinkann.

All W1 models have a load capacity of at least 8 kg, spin at 1600 rpm (A-rated for spin efficiency) and feature the top A+++ rating for energy efficiency. New to the range and also standard on all W1 machines is a practical dispenser for special-purpose detergents, additives and fabric conditioner using capsules, and a new rendition of the Miele honeycomb drum, patents pending, aimed at reducing the need for ironing.

The technical cream of the crop is the new PowerWash system which, as confirmed by the highly reputable and independent wfk institute in Krefeld, results in an improvement in cleaning performance of 10% at the least. This is achieved through the use of a separate circulation pump in combination with a special wash rhythm. In addition to this, Miele is for the first time offering a wash programme under the title QuickPowerWash which despite lasting less than 1 hour still achieves thorough cleaning (A-rated wash performance). The world's first 2-phase integrated liquid dispensing system saves up to 30% detergent. 'In combination with the two Miele detergents UltraPhase 1 and UltraPhase 2, truly excellent results are achieved on both whites and coloureds', explained Jüttner. 'Consequently, Miele offers the best and most effective liquid detergent system on the market'. At the same time, TwinDos is an open system also able to dispense conventional off-the-shelf liquid detergents and fabric conditioners from other manufacturers. And, the detergent dispenser drawer remains an option as always.

All T1 dryers have a load capacity of 8 kg of laundry and, above all, feature energy-efficient heat-pump technology, are rated A+ (or better) for energy efficiency, have Miele's SteamFinish, a system preparing laundry for ironing, and also offer FragranceDos (a system which scents laundry using a fragrance flacon and offers a choice of three perfumes. The EcoFeedback function on all models from the W1 and T1 ranges provides information on current consumption and, on the dryer, reports on the state of the lint filter.

With immediate effect, Miele customers can choose between two design lines which have both been developed from scratch: The more classical ChromeEdition and the WhiteEdition, designed to cater for followers of contemporary design. On both lines, the porthole door on the Miele tumble dryer and the common fascia design are striking features. 'Never before were washing machines and tumble dryers such a perfect and harmonious match', said Reinhard Zinkann, who together with Markus Miele represents the fourth generation of the two founding families on Miele's board of management.

At the beginning of his presentation, Zinkann devoted himself more to another new member of the Miele product family - a product which also excels in terms of elegance, low consumption and new features: the dishwashers from the Generation 6000 range of built-in appliances.

The most spectacular feature on these models - available exclusively from Miele - bears the name 'Knock2Open'. Gently tap twice and the door of the dishwasher opens as if of its own accord. 'This is the ideal approach to opening the door on a fully integrated dishwasher in a kitchen with handleless cabinet fronts', Zinkann pointed out. Knock2Open does not require any handle, knob or recessed grip; there is no need to apply pressure to open the door and there are no fingerprints left behind. And: 'false alarms', for instance as caused by noises from the worktop, can be reliably ruled out.

At the end of the press conference, Markus Miele provided a brief forecast for the 2013/14 financial year, which began at Miele on July 1. After 3.8% growth in the past business year, Senior Management once again anticipates growth in mid-range single-digit figures for the current year. 'This means building on the biggest product and innovation offensive in the history of our company', Markus Miele continued, 'and counting on the special trust and confidence that people all over the world place in the Miele brand.'
The Gütersloh-based family-owned company's IFA presentation this year is under the motto 'Creating Fascination'. The 3000 m² booth is located, as always, in Hall 2.1 (Stand no. 101).
