Miele tumble dryer sole test winner with Stiftung Warentest

Gütersloh, August 25, 2022 No. 064/2022
  • Miele TEF 775 WP was the only model to achieve an overall mark of 1.9
  • Top marks also in 'Environmental properties' and 'Drying' categories
  • StiWa conclusion: 'Miele operates most efficiently.'

After Miele washing machines topped the Stiftung Warentest rostrum four times in a row, a tumble dryer from the Gütersloh family-run company is now sole winner. Of the 13 models participating in the test, each with a load capacity of 8 kg and energy-efficiency class A+++, only Miele's TEF 775 WP achieved an overall 'Good', with a mark of 1.9. The results are there for all to read in the current 09/2022 edition of the consumer magazine published by the German watchdog on August 25.

As already the case with washing machines, the editorial team highlighted the product's good environmental properties and awarded the test winner from Miele a 'Very good' (1.5). Among all the models tested, this appliance used the least electricity, a fact which, over time, naturally takes the strain off family finances, not least in times when electricity prices are likely to continue to rise.

'This unique test victory shows once again that our dryers are not only exceptional when it comes to energy efficiency, but also excel in terms of other criteria such as quality and safety and are among the frontrunners when it comes to drying', says Ralf Zimmer, Vice President Category Marketing Laundry with the Miele Group.

And, indeed, the editors found words of recognition for the reliable drying of laundry ('in particular when fabrics go straight into a cupboard for storage') and awarded a 'Good' (1.8), the top mark in the test. Furthermore, the machine proved to be highly convenient with respect to loading and unloading and to emptying the condensate container. It was once again confirmed that heat-pump dryers from Miele are particularly air-tight, i.e. they release only an extremely small amount of moisture into the room – an aspect which is effective in preventing mould growth. Criteria such as reliability and product longevity, on the other hand, were largely disregarded in this test. The fact that Miele is the only manufacturer to test its dryers to last 20 years therefore had no effect on the test results.

Further convenience features on board

Alongside the criteria evaluated, the test winner TEF 775 WP scored points with further proven features resulting in first-class results and user convenience. These include Miele's tried-and-tested EcoDry technology relying on a maintenance-free heat exchanger – and, naturally, Miele's patented honeycomb drum, the epitome of gentle laundry care. Similarly, adding forgotten items of laundry is no problem either: With AddLoad, items can be added right through to almost the end of the programme – or can be removed from the machine. And, to top it all, a fragrance can be dispensed during drying using a Miele FragranceDos flacon to scent laundry. And thanks to the DryCare 40 option, items of clothing washable at 40 °C can be tumble-dried without the least worry – even if textiles are not approved for machine drying according to the wash-care label.

The test winner is technically identical to the TCF 770 WP.
