Miele unveils 'surely the best washing machine of all times' at IFA 2014

Gütersloh/Berlin, September 3, 2014 No. 094/2014

High-performance, convenient, efficient, elegant and networked:

Thanks to its numerous USPs, the new Miele W1 flagship model with its large touch display is unparallelled in the marketplace and need not fear the competition. No other washing machine is able to offer an A+++ minus 40% rating in combination with a programme lasting less than 3 hours, a 9 kg load capacity and a 1600 rpm spin speed. Naturally, the world-exclusive TwinDos dispenser system and the only fully fledged cycle with an A rating for wash performance are on board. The perfect match, both technically and design-wise, is the T1 dryer which also sports a large touch display.

This outstanding feat in terms of wash performance and energy consumption is not least attributable to the new PowerWash 2.0 process. This represents a resource-saving improvement on the previous Miele PowerWash system which was credited last year by the wfk laundry care institute with improving cleaning performance by at least 10%. PowerWash relies on the interplay of a circulation pump and a finely tuned drum speed.

The optimised version PowerWash 2.0 is characterised by the even more precise load-dependent control of this pump together with Miele's new Spin&Spray technology. The main benefit of this approach lies in the fact that, despite a maximum load capacity of 9 kg, even much smaller loads can be washed energy-efficiently - thanks to PowerWash 2.0. This new technology is characterised by multiple short spin bursts in the main wash to ensure better wetting and drenching of the load. This also allows the water level to be reduced even further, saving heating energy without entertaining any compromises in terms of cleaning performance.

By far the most striking feature of the new machines is an elegant fascia panel with a large touch display allowing convenient and intuitive use (XL Tronic). The only other control on the fascia panel is the On/Off button. Convenience, safety and a smart user experience is offered by the Wash Assistant. This involves entering the fabric type and colour, the degree of soiling and the required spin speed. Based on this data, the washing machine then recommends the most suitable programme.

A further exclusive Miele feature offering superb user benefits is TwinDos, the world's only integrated automatic dispensing system using multiple liquid components to guarantee that whites and heavily soiled garments come out sparklingly clean. The two detergents UltraPhase 1 (removing protein and grease) and UltraPhase 2 (providing bleaching action) are precisely blended by TwinDos to suit the needs of individual loads and programmes. This not only optimises cleaning performance and user convenience, it also goes easy on both the pocket and the environment, saving up to 30% on detergent.

At the same time, TwinDos is an open system, allowing either the use of Miele UltraPhase 1 and 2 or the spare empty containers provided to be filled with off-the-shelf detergents or fabric conditioner. And, of course, all W1 models still have a conventional detergent dispenser allowing powder detergent and additives to be dispensed manually in the time-honoured way. A further alternative which is unique to Miele is the precise and spillage-free dispensing of boosters, special-purpose detergents and fabric conditioner using portioned capsules. These are simply slotted in place in the fabric conditioner section of the detergent dispenser.

Furthermore, the W1 boasts all the features which have set Miele head and shoulders above its competitors over recent years, including 26 special-purpose wash programmes, EcoFeedback, consumption indicators for electricity and water and the patented SoftSteam drum in combination with SteamCare which ensures maximum care of fabrics and reduces the need for ironing by up to 50%. And, last but not least, customers profit from Miele's legendary quality, reliability and product longevity resulting from products tested to last 20 years. In the long term, machines would simply not be possible to withstand the centrifugal force resulting from a combination of a 1600 rpm spin speed and a 9 kg load capacity were it not for the robust and solid design of Miele machines. 'If you take all this together, this is the best washing machine Miele has ever built and surely the best machine ever to hit the market', says Dr Eduard Sailer, Managing Director responsible for technical affairs with the Miele Group, by way of a summary.

The ideal complement to this machine, both from a technical and optical point of view, is the T1 tumble dryer with an A+++ rating for energy efficiency and the same 9 kg load capacity. These features are joined by exclusive details such as SteamFinish. This involves spraying an aerosol created by passing water from the condensate container into the drum, where it turns to steam when exposed to the hot process air. This both removes wrinkles and stretches fabrics as they tumble in the rotating drum. This function really comes into its own when preparing dry garments for ironing, or unworn items which have been in a suitcase and need smoothing. If desired, Miele's exclusive fragrance dispensing system adds a touch of scent to laundry during the drying process, offering three to five different bouquets, depending on the country. And, what's more, the EcoFeedback indicator which has become a familiar feature on Miele washing machines, now helps users to get a better handle on tumble dryer energy efficiency. In addition to indicating consumption, these machines also feature a lint filter indicator as a clean filter reduces both consumption and cycle times.

Both the new washing machine and the new tumble dryer are network-enabled (Miele@home) and SmartGrid-ready. This continues Miele's decade-old drive to promote smart house technology by including the new laundry-care generation. New to these machines is MobileControl with which appliances can be controlled not only within the home as, given the right app, they can be operated from a smartphone or tablet PC (see also Press Release No. 100/2014).

Not only is the W1 with its A+++ minus 40% rating highly economical, it also excels in terms of cleaning performance thanks to the new PowerWash 2.0 system which now regulates the circulation pump as a factor of load size and makes use of Miele's new Spin&Spray technology. Despite the maximum load capacity of 9 kg, PowerWash 2.0 is able to wash smaller quantities of laundry most energy-efficiently. A key and exclusive Miele feature offering superb user benefits is TwinDos, the world's only integrated automatic dispensing system using multiple liquid components to guarantee that whites and heavily soiled garments come out sparklingly clean.

The new 9 kg load capacity equally applies to the new T1 dryer which also sports an A+++ rating for energy efficiency, making it the ideal complement for the W1 washing machine. It is also characterised by features such as SteamFinish and Fragrance Dispensing. EcoFeedback allows users to be on top of consumption at all times.
