Quiet and powerful: Miele TwoInOne induction hob with new extraction concept

Gütersloh/Berlin, August 31, 2022 No. 076/2022
  • New Silence motor reduces perceived sound emissions by around 30 %
  • Plug&Play for simple installation

TwoInOne - Nomen est omen: The induction hob with an integrated extractor combines the best from the two Miele competence centres in Bünde and Arnsberg. These elegant multitalents have been in particularly big demand for several years in the design of open-plan kitchens. The company is now augmenting its portfolio with the inclusion of two very powerful yet quiet models with a new fan system.

The two newcomers, the KMDA 7272 Silence and the KMDA 7473 Silence, draw in moisture, grease and odours via a centrally positioned downdraught extractor far more forcefully than previously the case. If the highest available power output is needed, for instance when all rings are in use, the booster can be activated to transport up to 610 m³ of air per hour (vented mode). Despite this, the new models have perceived sound emissions during operation which are around 30% lower than on their predecessors. 'This makes them the quietest on the market', says Till Deutschmann, Head of Category Marketing Hobs and Hoods with Miele, 'and the ideal proposition for modern living styles'.

The technical centrepiece of the new extraction system is a Silence motor with a streamlined cross-section and a reduced building-in depth. In both cooking zones on either side of the downdraught extractor, individual pans or larger dishes are automatically detected (permanent pan recognition). On the KMDA 7473 Silence, two zones (FlexZones) can be joined to give two racetrack burners with an output of 3.7 kW, for example for casserole dishes, a Gourmet griddle or Teppan Yaki.

The elegant design of the products is largely the result of the striking extraction grille in the centre. The grille is set in the ceramic screen and, thanks to its bevelled frame, is now even more streamlined. Depending on the model, the grille is either completely black (KMDA 7272 Silence) or has discreet brushed stainless-steel slats (KMDA 7473 Silence). The ComfortSelect Plus controls are located directly in front of the extractor, with an indicator each for the cooking zones and the extractor (depending on the model, the run of numbers is either printed on the surface or back-lit). New, too, are the minimalistic ring graphics. With the proven Con@ctivity* function, suction power is automatically adjusted to what is actually happening on the hob. Shortly after cooking ends, the extractor automatically switches itself off again.

Greater flexibility and simpler installation with Plug&Play

TwoInOne hob units offer a choice between air venting and recirculation. In vented mode, steam and vapours are drawn in and filtered by the grease filter and blown outside the building via flat ducting and a wall vent. This rids the kitchen entirely of odours and moisture. At the same time, fresh air must be admitted, for instance via an open window.

In recirulation mode, the TwoInOne passes air first through a grease filter and an active charcoal filter. New on this model is that the latter is now located next to the grease filter for easy and fast replacement when needed. The air then passes through ducting with a rectangular cross-section and returns to the kitchen via a recirculation box (ducted recirculation). What is also new is the fine dust filter on the active charcoal version. The Sensitive AirClean filter removes not only odours but also cleans the room air using an additional random-spun filter: Fine dust particles such as pollen, spores, bacteria and tobacco smoke (with a size of 0.3 to 2.5 µm) are reduced by more than 50% (the random-spun filter subscribes to Class ePM 2.5 filtration efficiency, tested according to ISO 16890).

With this new approach to extraction, Miele is now offering its customers an additional Plug&Play recirculation version which guarantees even greater flexibility regarding planning and installation. With this type of installation, it is also possible to achieve shorter plinths than previously. This method of installation requires neither flat ducting nor a plinth box. Instead, an adapter connects the air discharge on the unit with a round cut-out in rear panel of the housing unit. This allows filtered air to be returned to the room via a gap between the housing unit and the wall and from there via the kitchen plinth. The active charcoal filter and the grease filter are located, as on models with ducted recirculation, at the top of the unit from where they can be removed conveniently. Thanks to the slim design of the new Silence motor and a building-in depth of only 20 cm, only the top drawer below the unit is sacrificed with Plug&Play installation. All other drawers below can be used to their full extent as storage space.

The new TwoInOne hob units will be available in two versions from December 2022: one model with four individual rings and a black grille (KMDA 7272 Silence) and a 'racetrack burner' version (KMDA 7473 Silence) with WiFi functionality for connection to the Miele App*. Both models are available either as frameless units or with an all-round stainless-steel frame. Furthermore, these hob units are available as recirculation and vented versions. Both models achieve an A+ energy efficiency rating.
