Reprocessing of anaesthetic material now safer and even more economical

Gütersloh/Hanover, June 8, 2015 No. 067/2015

New washer-disinfectors from Miele Professional

Ample space for intubation material and breathing hoses is provided by a new washer-disinfector from Miele Professional – a machine which at the same time shortens cycle times and reduces consumption. In the space of only 50 minutes, the entire anaesthetic equipment used on board an ambulance is ready for use again. The 90 cm wide undercounter unit with the model designation PG 8582 CD is due to be launched in August 2015.

The heart and soul of this innovative wash process is a new and patented circulation pump which adjusts water pressure in each phase of the programme for anaesthetic material. This, in turn, reduces water and energy consumption considerably and achieves top-class reprocessing results. This pump also contains all heater elements which heat water as it circulates through the pipework. This and the laser-welded chamber prevent unnecessary carryover of residuals and redeposition on tubing, thereby raising the safety levels of equipment used by paramedics.

Water and drying air is now introduced into load carriers from the rear, minimising pressure losses and improving the supply of drying air. This guarantees economical and reproducible reprocessing results which are tailored to the needs of intubation material and breathing hoses.

An integrated side cupboard guarantees a neat and tidy location for dispenser pumps. It allows the automatic, safe and economical dispensing of detergent and neutralising agent. The thorough internal drying of tubing and other anaesthetic equipment is ensured by DryPlus: Moisture remaining in the chamber at the end of a cycle is heated by the integrated heater bank and discharged after passing through the new steam condenser. A highly efficient HEPA Class 13 particulate filter ensures that air taken in for drying is particle-free, preventing any recontamination of the load.

Modular load carriers have proved ideal in coping with the wide range of contaminated medical products used during an ambulance call-out as they adapt to individual needs. Such a load carrier offers space for 8 breathing tubes with a length of up to 1.5 m, each connected for internal irrigation and arranged around the central spiral rack. Water injected at the lower end produces a standing column of water which reaches all internal surfaces, ensuring full-surface cleaning and disinfection. A further module is designed to take intubation material and is fitted with 15 injector nozzles for Guedel tubes, laryngeal masks and other materials which have been in direct contact with injured persons.
