Sustainable reprocessing with Miele – for better protection of resources and instruments

In the reprocessing of dental instruments, reduced consumption of water and electricity contributes towards minimising the strain on resources and cutting costs. Medical products from Miele therefore combine performance and efficiency – fully in keeping with Miele's corporate claim of developing products and services which have the least possible impact on the environment.

Even today, Miele is CO2-neutral across all its locations. This has been achieved for example by exclusively sourcing green electricity and compensating for remaining emissions with high-quality CO2 certificates. Miele has set itself the target of reducing absolute emissions at all its production plants and sales locations worldwide by 50% by 2030 in comparison with 2019. To save further energy, the company will continue to invest in energy efficiency at its various locations as well as expanding its own power generation from renewable sources. Locations in China, Germany, the Netherlands and Austria already have PV systems or are in the process of setting such systems up.

Even Miele's 154 m² booth at the IDS in Cologne subscribes to the principles of sustainability: a modular presentation concept which, among others, consists of pedestals, rear panels and storage units, can be re-used at other trade shows, as can part of the floor covering.

In everyday work in a dental practice, Miele thermal disinfectors minimise consumption and costs. Dispenser pumps fitted ex works contribute to this. These ensure that each programme cycle only uses the required amount of detergent and neutralising agent. This significantly reduces the volumes of chemicals used.

Water consumption reduced by 67% compared with previous series

A patented heater pump which runs at speeds which vary according to the needs of the individual cycle has the potential to save even more. Depending on the programme, the current models use 67% less water than their same-size counterparts from the previous series. Additionally, this pump heats water particularly fast and thereby cuts cycle times even further.

After the last rinse cycle, steam from the chamber condenses in the steam condenser at the rear of the unit. On models with the EcoDry feature, the machine door opens automatically at the end of a programme once the temperature in the chamber drops below 70°C. As a result, hot, damp air is removed from the chamber within a short space of time, reliably drying and cooling down all load types.

To cope with the high volume of instruments in dental surgeries, Miele thermal disinfectors have two rack levels – and also feature a large number of matching baskets and inserts, for instance for mouth rinse beakers or with 44 injector nozzles for complex lumened instruments. For efficient management in the surgery, models from the most recent generation connect to the Miele MOVE online platform. This allows users to check whether machines are ready for unloading from the convenience of a smartphone, tablet or PC, making for the efficient use of machines and avoiding unproductive downtimes.

Long maintenance intervals of 5 years or 4000 sterilisation cycles

Miele Cube and Cube X small sterilisers offer a whole host of opportunities to save on resources. Innovative EcoDry technology guarantees shorter drying times, coupled with significant energy savings and extended instrument service lives. The long maintenance intervals of 5 years or 4000 sterilisation cycles point to high standards of product quality – and reduce running costs in a dental practice. Cube and Cube X sterilisers stand for sustainable water treatment and can be connected together with a thermal disinfector to Miele full demineralisation cartridges. These provide a fast and cost-effective source of demineralised water to meet high demands.

As medical products from Miele are made from choice high-grade materials, they provide many years of reliable service in dental practices. They are tested to last at least 15,000 operating hours and spare parts are available for 15 years after the production of machines ceases. Customers also profit from Miele's own expertly trained service technicians. An investment in modern technology is therefore the prerequisite for long-term security, good forward visibility in terms of running costs and a contribution towards the sustainable management of surgeries.
