The latest in data management in CSSD and doctors' surgeries – safe and convenient

Gütersloh/Düsseldorf, November 12, 2014 No. 162/2014

Two new examples of Miele Professional's systematic approach

Miele Professional now offers two systems aimed at managing data relating to the reprocessing of medical devices in hospitals and surgeries. Maximum security and user convenience is afforded by both systems: The new Segosoft Miele Edition Version 7, for instance, is the only software for process documentation in surgeries to boast IT certification from Germany's Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). Hospitals, on the other hand, are likely to find the successful EuroSDS information system, which now offers new modules for enhanced user convenience, of greater interest.

Development of the current EuroSDS Version 6 is certified as complying with the requirements pursuant to EN ISO 13485:2012 + AC:2012. This means that clients can profit from the ultimate in security with respect to quality, documentation and traceability in the reprocessing of medical devices. A new functionality allows the use of medical products in theatre and on wards to be captured using mobile devices both on- and offline. As the condition and the location of entire sets of surgical instruments and individual items can be monitored from a large screen in CSSD, the deployment of inventory within the department can be planned with precision. The new paperless QM documentation caters for client-specific forms which can be used to capture additional data at individual workstations – for instance for logging complaints or submitting queries on changes to packing lists. These forms can be evaluated very fast and the results visualised in Excel charts.

Furthermore, the new EuroSDS camera allows video sequences to be captured which can then be used to provide guidance at individual packing tables in CSSD. This simplifies the job of assigning instruments to sets and baskets to trolleys. A further important new feature is the machine status monitor: This allows the status of machines to be checked at a glance and also monitors programme progress in washer-disinfectors and sterilisers. Segosoft Miele Edition 7 software sets standards in terms of safety and efficiency in surgeries by capturing and documenting all the key process data on washer-disinfectors and sterilisers fully automatically. After programme completion and a visual check, the user approves instruments at the computer, documenting the fact by entering a user name and password.

Segosoft Miele Edition 7 is currently the only process documentation software in the medical sector to carry the stamp of approval of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). This highest level of certification offers an independent assessment of the suitability of a product in meeting the required safety standards with respect to the legal security and confidentiality of captured data.

Certification by an independent and official body underlines the high safety standards which Segosoft Miele Edition documentation software subscribes to. For clients, this means that they can rest assured of the integrity and confidentiality of their information according to internationally valid criteria: A digital signature reliably detects any attempt to manipulate records. The PDF/A1 document format complies with the ISO 19005-1:2005 standard and ensures that protocols can be read and evaluated and remain legally valid even after decades.

With Edition 7, surgeries are not only in possession of certified software but also have a future-proof product. For the first time, Segosoft has been classified as an active Class IIb medical product throughout Europe. Together with the Service Card, the software represents a comprehensive peace-of-mind package which is unparallelled in the marketplace: This includes updates, advice on use and full technical support by e-mail, telephone or remote maintenance from Comcotec, Miele's partner, providing customers with a safe data management system for many years after the original purchase.
