The new washer-dryers from Miele are fast and connected – and come with automatic dispensing

Gütersloh/Berlin, August 31, 2016 No. 086/2016

Washing and drying in less than three hours

With the WT1, Miele will be sending out a strong signal at the IFA trade show: 4 kg of laundry washed immaculately and dried in less than 3 hours, without any manual intervention in-between. Not even detergent has to be dispensed by hand as the WT1 features integrated TwinDos automatic dispensing, a top feature familiar to consumers from W1 washing machines. These machines can be linked to the Internet via a WLAN connection. The market launch is due to commence from October on.

Washing and drying in one and the same unit saves space and is extremely practical – provided a washer-dryer is able to compete on performance and convenience with its two individual counterparts. This particular aspect was at the forefront of Miele's mind in developing a whole collection of new washer-dryers. These new products are based on washing machines and tumble dryers from the current W1 and T1 series respectively. 'And the results have to be seen to be believed - from performance data through to technically sophisticated extras which are only available from Miele', says Gernot Trettenbrein, head of the Domestic Appliance International business unit at Miele (cf. enclosure 'The WT1 at a glance').

These machines offer increased capacity, starting with a 7 kg load in the wash cycle and 4 kg during drying; according to surveys conducted by the University of Bonn, the average load in German households in both the washing and drying cycles is on average 4 kg. For more laundry, the WT1 range offers a version with an 8 kg load capacity (wash cycle) and 5 kg (drying cycle).

Short cycle thanks to PowerWash 2.0

The WT1 sets standards with its short cycle times: 4 kg of laundry are washed and dried in less than 3 hours, without any unloading or other manual intervention inbetween. For 5 kg of laundry, the WT1 requires less than 3.5 hours. This is above all made possible by the Miele PowerWash 2.0 process: The laundry is wetted faster through spray action, short interim spin cycles and precision load-dependent controls, requiring less water in the process. This, on the other hand, reduces energy consumption for heating, in particular when washing less-than-full loads.

Most convenient washer-dryer on the market

The new washer-dryers from Miele are also available with TwinDos, Miele's unique and integrated dispensing system for two-phase liquid detergents. In combination with Miele's UltraPhase1 and UltraPhase2 detergents, even whites and heavily soiled garments are immaculately cleaned – and up to 30% detergent can be saved compared with manual dispensing, a fact also confirmed by the Öko Institut. Further user convenience is afforded by familiar features such as the delay-start function, the Programme Manager allowing the customisation of programmes as well as SteamCare which reduces the need for ironing by up to 50% or freshens up garments briefly worn. And for special textiles such as hiking wear, down-filled items or simply for fabric conditioner, the washer-dryer now features CapDosing, allowing the dispensing of portioned capsules.

According to the model, the WT1 can be connected to the Internet via a home's wireless network using the free-of-charge Miele@mobile app without any proprietary hardware. The machine status and TwinDos cartridge level can be called up remotely. When detergent levels in the cartridges are low, TwinDos even automatically relays this information to a smartphone or tablet PC, ordering option inclusive. The WT1 is in the best current A category for energy efficiency – and naturally also A-rated for wash performance.

With all its performance and convenience features, the new WT1 from Miele is unique in the marketplace, summarises marketing manager Gernot Trettenbrein. And: 'I am firmly convinced that Miele is now perfectly positioned to benefit disproportionately from the strong growth in demand for washer-dryers and to grow market shares'.
